About the job
The Assistant Instrument Engineer provides hands-on technical support and assists in maintenance activities related to instrumentation in Production Unit. The role supports the execution of scheduled, emergency, and non-routine maintenance work, ensuring tasks are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with site Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting support for instrument-related matters in Production Unit
- Ensure work is carried out in compliance with statutory obligations, Engineering Codes of Practice, and site standards.
- Support the execution of daily and weekly maintenance schedules by preparing materials, tools, and resources needed for assigned jobs.
- Assist in the planning and execution of Emergency & Schedule Breaker priority work repairs.
- Comply with all HSSE standards and requirements during maintenance activities.
- Perform SAP administration tasks such as updating time sheets, service entries, purchase and material orders.
- Provide updates on daily maintenance progress and support work order closure (MCMP, TECO, actual hours).
- Coordinate with Operations, Technology, and Procurement teams as required to carry out maintenance jobs.
- Supervise contractors in the field to ensure safe execution, productivity, and quality of work.
- Identify recurring instrumentation issues, support troubleshooting, and recommend improvements to enhance reliability.
- Assist in updating and maintaining spare parts inventory for instrumentation.
- Seek opportunities to improve work methods, procedures, and tools to deliver maintenance efficiently and within budget.
- Participate in scheduled safety walkabouts. Assess risks for day-to-day jobs and ensure appropriate control measures are in place.
- Contribute to the development of formal Job Hazard Analysis for jobs with medium and high risks.
- Ensure full compliance with Life Saving Rules and site safety requirements at all times.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum NITEC Level 2 certification in Instrumentation, Electronics, or Electrical, or a Diploma/Degree in the same fields.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in instrumentation construction or maintenance in oil & gas, chemical, petrochemical, or related industries.
- Able to perform standby duty at Bukom site, as per revised schedule.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, including PLC, DCS, communication protocols (OPC, Fieldbus, Modbus, HART, Vnet), functional logic, and PID interpretation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for instrumentation and control systems, with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with calibration of industrial instrumentation.
- Basic understanding of server system administration, including troubleshooting and maintenance procedures.
- SAP (GSAP) knowledge in Maintenance Module is a plus.
- Strong team player with experience in field work, stakeholder engagement, and contractor/vendor management. Able to work independently when required.
